Sam:
What inspired you to kickstart your fitness journey?
I've always wanted to incorporate a fitness program into my routine to at least be functionally fit and, if I'm lucky enough to grow old, maintain independence for as long as possible. I know how important it is to build and maintain muscle, but I've struggled to stay consistent with a strength workout program. In 2023, I decided to prioritize consistency in physical activity and started regularly attending The Studio (MDR) classes.

What major fitness milestones are you aiming to conquer next?
I know it might sound a bit silly, but I really want to nail the proper push-up and pull-up form. It's gonna be a long road, but I'm up for the challenge!

How has your mindset shifted since you began this journey?
I used to believe that there were better uses for my time than exercising. However, I now realize that being able to move our bodies is a privilege, not a guarantee.
In what ways has the Studio (MDR) been instrumental in your transformation?
I have found that The Studio (MDR) is a perfect fit for me, especially since I often struggle with decision fatigue. The 45-minute workout routine eliminates the need for me to plan everything out -- I just have to show up! I love that the Total Body class never gets easier and can sometimes be incredibly humbling, pushing me to my limit while also allowing me to feel safe and make modifications as needed.

I’ve had lower back pain for years, to the point where I couldn't hold a plank for more than a few seconds without feeling discomfort. However, after attending classes at The Studio (MDR), my back pain has significantly decreased. Not only have I experienced physical benefits, but the mental benefits have been incredible as well. I handle stress better now, and I always feel amazing after class, which is why I make it a priority to attend regularly. The Studio (MDR) has truly become my "third place."

Rico:
How have you noticed yourself evolving since you started?
Having been a consistent weight lifter at gyms since my teenage years, Studio (MDR) has been beyond instrumental in helping me truly feel connected with my core. It revealed how many of my previous ab workouts lacked the mind-muscle connection I now experience.

Any unexpected perks or benefits from your journey?
In addition to the core strength benefits I've previously mentioned, I've also experienced significant improvement in my overall flexibility. Before joining Studio (MDR), I specifically had very little flexibility in my lower body and couldn't even bend over to touch my toes. I'm happy to report that I can now!

Any pearls of wisdom for those just starting out?
Come in with humility and don't be discouraged if you struggle at first. Despite my years of consistent weightlifting, I still remember leaving my first class thinking, "Wow, I'm actually weak." It made me feel like a beginner again and I was immediately humbled. If you find yourself thinking, "This may be too difficult for me" during the first few weeks, just remember that others have definitely felt the same way. I guarantee that improvement and a sense of accomplishment are just around the corner!
